Malaysia’s Journey Ends at All England Badminton Championships

At the All England Badminton Championships, Malaysia’s mixed doubles team Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie lost in the quarter-finals to China’s Huang Dongping and Jiang Zhenbang. The women’s doubles pair Pearlly Tan-M. Thinaah were also eliminated by Japan’s Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama, ending Malaysia’s competition in the Super 1000 tournament.

At the All England Badminton Championships in Birmingham, top seeds Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie were eliminated from the mixed doubles category after a quarter-final defeat to Huang Dongping and Jiang Zhenbang of China. The Malaysian duo showcased an initial strong performance, but their consistency faltered, leading to a final score of 21-18, 8-21, 10-21 after 45 minutes.

Soon Huat acknowledged the superior consistency of the Chinese players during their match. He stated, “We didn’t focus on our endurance and we weren’t as consistent as them.” He also mentioned that their numerous mistakes contributed to the loss.

Additionally, the national women’s doubles team of Pearlly Tan and M. Thinaah faced elimination in the same round, losing 17-21, 19-21 to Japan’s Chiharu Shida and Nami Matsuyama. With both pairs out of the tournament, Malaysia’s participation in the Super 1000 event has concluded.
