Uzbekistan Ranks Highest in CIS for Beef Prices in 2025

As of March 7, 2025, Uzbekistan has achieved the highest beef prices among post-Soviet nations, ranking 91st out of 127 countries globally, according to Ranking.kz and the international service Numbeo. The cost of a kilogram of beef tenderloin in Uzbekistan is $8.1, with neighboring countries like Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan offering slightly lower prices of just over $7 per kilogram.

Globally, Switzerland holds the record for the most expensive beef at $44.3 per kilogram, followed by Iceland at $38.7. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reported an 18% rise in global meat prices in February 2025 compared to the same period the previous year, mainly due to increased demand for beef.

In Uzbekistan, meat product prices have escalated by 14.4% within a year. Specifically, beef on the bone has surged by 18.5%, while lamb prices have increased by 19.4%. Conversely, the price of poultry meat has fallen by 0.8%.

The consumer price index (CPI) in Uzbekistan rose by 0.54% in February 2025, signifying the highest monthly inflation rate for that period since 2023. Food prices increased by 0.6% in February and 1.4% since the year’s beginning, resulting in an annual food inflation rate of 2.9%, the lowest in five years, while meat prices rose by 2.1%.

Uzbekistan has become the most expensive country for beef in the CIS, reflecting significant price increases over the past year. While global meat prices are rising due to high demand, Uzbekistan’s beef prices are notably high compared to its neighbors.
