Fubara stated he was genuinely shocked that the assembly denied him entry despite his prior communication regarding his visit. During the inauguration of the Bori Zonal Hospital in Khana Local Government Area, he emphasized the necessity of prioritizing the state’s economy and alleviating difficulties faced by public sector workers.
The governor detailed his efforts to notify the Speaker and other assembly members about his scheduled visit. He communicated via WhatsApp, informing them of his intended arrival time to prevent issues for Rivers State. In response to claims of inadequate communication on his part, Fubara stated, “I leave it to God who sees in secret places.”
Mr. Fubara asserted his commitment to managing his powers responsibly as he navigates a political rivalry with his predecessor. He acknowledged that power can be abused, which can exacerbate conflicts, and assured that he would act with restraint, mindful of life after public office.
The political rivalry between Fubara and Wike has resulted in divisions within the assembly, creating factions—27 lawmakers support Wike, while only three back Fubara. Following the assembly complex’s demolition, both factions have resorted to meeting in separate venues.
Despite ongoing tensions, the Supreme Court recently reaffirmed Amaewhule’s position and reinstated assembly members, requiring the governor to re-present the budget within 48 hours, which he vowed to do, although he expressed disagreement with the court’s ruling.
