Prime Minister Dlamini Attends Namibia’s Historic Presidential Inauguration

Prime Minister Russell Dlamini travels to Namibia for the inauguration of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the first female president-elect, coinciding with Namibia’s 35th Independence Day. Nandi-Ndaitwah’s election reinforces SWAPO’s dominance in Namibian politics.

Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has departed to attend the inauguration of Namibia’s first female President-elect, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. He left via King Mswati III International Airport, accompanied by Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko, who will represent the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Pholile Shakantu. Before leaving, Dlamini expressed they were sent by Their Majesties to represent them at the ceremony scheduled for today, hoping for divine guidance on their journey.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, at 72, will officially take office in a ceremony that coincides with Namibia’s 35th Independence Day, marking independence from South Africa on March 21, 1990. Elected in November 2024 with 57.31 percent of the vote, she triumphed over 14 competitors, surpassing the 50 percent threshold needed to avoid a runoff. Nandi-Ndaitwah, a former vice president of Namibia and a member of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO), continues SWAPO’s governance since independence.

She succeeds Nangolo Mbumba, who served as interim president following the death of the third president, Hage Geingob, in February last year. Nandi-Ndaitwah’s election marks a significant moment in Namibian history, solidifying SWAPO’s leadership in the nation since gaining independence.

Prime Minister Dlamini’s attendance at the inauguration marks a historic occasion with the inauguration of Namibia’s first female president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. Celebrating independence alongside her new presidency highlights an important chapter in Namibia’s political landscape as SWAPO continues its longstanding rule.
