Jorge Martin hopes to return for the MotoGP race in Qatar after missing the first two rounds due to injuries from pre-season crashes, while Miguel Oliveira will be replaced by Augusto Fernandez for the Austin race following his own injury.
Jorge Martin, the defending MotoGP world champion, aims to return to racing following two pre-season accidents. He has missed the first two rounds of the championship and will skip the Austin race on March 29-30, with hopes pinned on the Lusail race in Qatar scheduled for April 12-13. Martin stated, “I expect to be in Qatar, but only if it doesn’t pose any risks,” highlighting his cautious approach to recovery.
After breaking his right hand and foot in a crash during pre-season testing in Malaysia, Martin faced further setbacks when he sustained additional injuries during training on a supermoto bike. He detailed his injuries which included a broken radius and scaphoid bones in his left wrist, four fractures in his left foot, and muscle injuries to his right ribs.
Currently, Martin is trailing six-time champion Marc Marquez by 74 points, as Marquez has dominated early season races. Martin commented on Marquez’s success, stating, “Marc winning is not something anyone could not have expected,” but remains optimistic about his recovery, mentioning on social media, “It was a difficult time but now I start to see the light.”
In related news, the Yamaha-Pramac team announced that Miguel Oliveira will miss the Austin race due to a left shoulder injury sustained during the Sprint Race in Argentina on March 15. He has been replaced by Augusto Fernandez, the 2022 Moto2 World Champion, who has experience racing in MotoGP and has served as a reserve rider for Yamaha this year.
Jorge Martin is determined to recover in time for the MotoGP race in Qatar despite suffering significant injuries from crashes. While he acknowledges the challenges ahead, he is optimistic about his potential return. Meanwhile, the Yamaha-Pramac team is adjusting their lineup following Oliveira’s injuries, as they seek to maintain competitiveness in the championship.
