Recent reports from the UN Human Rights Office highlight an alarming rise in violence against civilians in Khartoum, exacerbated by ongoing hostilities. From March 12, numerous civilians, including humanitarian volunteers, have died due to artillery and aerial assaults by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in eastern Khartoum and north Omdurman.
Credible accounts reveal that the RSF and associated militias are involved in severe human rights abuses, including home invasions, summary executions, and arbitrary detentions. Additionally, they have been looting essential resources such as food and medical supplies from community kitchens and clinics. Disturbing allegations of sexual violence have also emerged from the Al Giraif Gharb area.
Furthermore, the SAF and its affiliates are reported to engage in looting and criminal activities in Khartoum North (Bahri) and East Nile, where widespread arbitrary arrests are occurring. Amid this chaos, human rights representatives urge all parties and states with influence to take definitive actions to protect civilians and curtail the prevailing lawlessness and impunity.
