He finished seventh in his heat, clocking a time of 6.61 seconds, placing him 13th overall out of 16 participants. Only the top eight competitors from two heats advance to the finals scheduled for Saturday (Sunday in Malaysia).

Azeem previously achieved a personal best by breaking the national 60m record, finishing at 6.56 seconds, to earn a bronze medal at the 2025 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships earlier this month. This new record surpassed his previous mark of 6.60 seconds, which he set at the Tiger Paw Invitational Championships at Clemson University. This accomplishment positions him among the top 10 runners at Auburn University.

Robert Ballard, technical director of the Malaysian Athletics Federation (MAF), expressed optimism regarding Azeem’s future potential. He remarked that competing in the NCAA championships itself is a significant milestone for Azeem. Ballard noted, “He did everything to make it to the NCAA championships finals. Running 6.61s in a major event is a real positive sign for future things to come,” emphasizing that Azeem missed qualifying by just 0.05 seconds.
