Colombian Avocados to Supply U.S. Market Year-Round

GreenFruit Avocados announces year-round Colombian avocado availability in the U.S., driven by increased volumes and improved quality. Expectations for the 2025 crop anticipate a 25-30% increase. GreenFruit Avocados is now offering year-round availability of Colombian avocados in the U.S. market. Andrew Gomez states, “The old crop started in November/December and ran through January/February and never before, have we brought in so much volume during these months.” The company capitalized on decreased Mexican imports due to tariff issues, resulting in good volume and sizing for Colombian avocados during this period.

Looking ahead, expectations for the 2025 crop are high, with Gomez noting, “Looking at our orchards, we expect to have about 25 to 30 percent more volume compared to 2024.” The additional volume will primarily target the U.S. market while also supplying Europe. The geographical proximity of Colombia to the U.S. is a significant factor in this distribution, especially as Peru is expected to direct its exports to Europe this season.

Colombia’s main avocado crop, Traviesa, will begin harvesting in April, with shipments expected in the U.S. by the same month. The harvest will continue until August or September, and the availability of Colombian avocados year-round promises market stability. Gomez emphasizes, “Surety of supply is key for our retail partners and the stability that Colombia offers is very attractive to them.”

Over the past five years, Colombian avocado quality has improved dramatically. Gomez reports that growers are more diligent about quality control, and favorable weather conditions have contributed to producing high-quality fruit.
