The China International Press Communication Center (CIPCC), in collaboration with the China Public Diplomacy Association (CPDA), has launched a four-month media exchange program designed for 55 journalists from various regions, including Liberia. This initiative, which began on February 27, 2025, in Beijing, aims to enhance understanding of China’s socio-economic progress and foster collaboration between China and global media.
Participants will experience immersive learning through lectures, field visits, and internships, providing a deeper insight into China’s governance and cultural landscape. Selected from a competitive pool of 120 applicants across over 100 countries, the program targets journalists from developing nations.
CIPCC Director Yu Lei expressed enthusiasm for participants to promote mutual understanding through journalism, stating, “This program is about fostering mutual understanding between China and the international community.” He emphasized the importance of adhering to China’s laws while encouraging journalists to engage with the country’s transformative narrative.
The program also includes unique access to key political events in China, such as the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, starting March 4, 2025. Participants will receive specialized training on topics including diplomacy, economic reforms, and media practices, along with field visits and interactions with government sectors.
Journalists will also participate in symposiums with Chinese think tanks, aiming to gain valuable insights into both domestic and international policy. One notable participant is Lincoln G. Peters from Liberia, who has expressed that this opportunity will strengthen Liberia-China media relations and deepen storytelling about China’s development.
Peters remarked, “I view this as a platform to further deepen Liberia-China relations through accurate storytelling and to represent Liberia on the global media stage.” He highlighted his commitment to promoting a balanced narrative about China’s growth and intends to act as an ambassador for meaningful connections between the nations.
Founded over a decade ago, the CIPCC program aims to promote global media cooperation and cultural exchange, aligning with China’s strategic goals of enhancing its diplomatic relations through people-centered initiatives. As the program progresses toward its conclusion on July 11, 2025, participants are expected to produce extensive multimedia projects reflecting their experiences and insights gained during their stay.
The CIPCC’s media exchange program represents a significant step towards enhancing media cooperation and understanding between China and the international community. Through immersive experiences, specialized training, and direct access to Chinese political processes, journalists like Lincoln G. Peters are positioned to strengthen narratives about both China and their home countries. This initiative underscores China’s commitment to fostering global media ties and understanding through journalism.
