Egypt and Qatar Urged to Pressure for Gaza Ceasefire Negotiations

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aati stated that Egypt and Qatar, with U.S. support, must exert pressure on Israel for negotiations regarding the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, originally established in a three-phase agreement. The success of hostages’ release and the fulfillment of obligations by all parties are key to continuing peace efforts.

Cairo’s Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Aati underscored the shared responsibility of Egypt and Qatar, along with the U.S., in pressuring for negotiations on the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. He noted that the successful joint efforts in January established a three-phase ceasefire, with implementation of the first phase completed, but identified a party attempting to evade its obligations.

Abdel Aati emphasized the necessity for both parties to honor their commitments under this agreement. He particularly stressed Israel’s responsibilities to ensure the full realization of the ceasefire in all three stages.

Both nations expect the U.S. to facilitate enforcing the agreement and to promptly initiate negotiations for the ceasefire’s second phase. The significant role of the Trump administration in achieving the initial ceasefire before the administration entered the Oval Office was acknowledged by the Egyptian FM.

He highlighted the success of releasing several hostages but insisted that efforts must persist towards implementing all stages of the agreement until all captives in Gaza are freed. Consequently, Israel is expected to fulfill its commitments regarding humanitarian aid and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

Additionally, an Extraordinary Arab summit held in Cairo reaffirmed the importance of fully executing all stages of the ceasefire agreement and stressed each party’s adherence to their commitments, particularly Israel’s, to ensure a lasting cessation of hostilities against Gaza and a complete withdrawal from the territory.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry emphasizes the collective responsibility of Egypt, Qatar, and the U.S. to advance negotiations for the Gaza ceasefire’s second phase. Notably, adherence to commitments by all parties, especially Israel, is critical for the ongoing peace process and humanitarian aid. The commitment to successfully implement all stages of the ceasefire is underscored by regional support, aiming for a lasting solution.
