Rwanda’s Producer Prices Increase for Second Consecutive Month

Rwanda’s producer prices rose by 0.6% year-on-year in January 2025, marking the second consecutive month of increases. This rise was fueled by manufacturing and mining sectors, while utility prices remained steady. On a monthly basis, prices increased by 0.8%, recovering from December’s drop.

In January 2025, Rwanda experienced a year-on-year increase in producer prices, rising by 0.6% compared to a 0.2% increase in the previous month. This growth indicates a consecutive rise in producer prices for the second month, primarily driven by the manufacturing sector’s price increase of 0.6%, which improved from December’s 0.1%, along with mining and quarrying prices rising to 1.1% from 1.2%.

Specific sectors displayed stability, as prices for electricity, gas, steam, air conditioning supply, and water supply, as well as sewerage, waste management, remediation, and information and communication services, remained unchanged. On a monthly basis, there was a resurgence in producer prices with a 0.8% increase in January after a 0.5% decline in December, showing recovery in the pricing landscape.

The latest data on Rwanda’s producer prices indicates a modest yet positive trend, showcasing growth in manufacturing and mining while key utility sectors have steadied. The recovery in January marks a significant rebound from the previous month, suggesting a more stable outlook for producer prices in the near future.
