The eight lawmakers suspended by the Zamfara State Home of Meeting on Sunday stated they had been chased out of the state by political thugs for exposing the rising tide of insecurity within the state.
Additionally they stated the Home had written to them to return their official automobiles to the clerk.
The PUNCH stories that the Zamfara State Home of Meeting on February 27 suspended eight lawmakers for allegedly holding an unlawful plenary session.
The eight suspended lawmakers are Bashir Aliyu (PDP-Gummi 1); Amiru Keta (PDP-Tsafe West); Nasiru Abdullahi (PDP-Maru South); Bashir Masama (PDP-Bukkuyum North); Faruku Dosara (APC-Maradun 1); Ibrahim Tukur (APC-Bakura constituency); Shamsudeen Hassan (APC Talata-Mafara North) and Bashiru Sarkin-Zango (PDP-Bungudu West).
Whereas addressing a press convention in Zaria, Kaduna State on Sunday, the lawmakers alleged that some safety operatives had been despatched to hunt them with none cause, a scenario that pressured them to enter hiding.
Bashir Aliyu, talking on behalf of the suspended lawmakers, stated they’d not be silenced till motion was taken to tame the excessive stage of insecurity in Zamfara.
He stated once they took steps to result in modifications within the management of the Meeting, it was to attract consideration to the alleged extended absence of the Speaker and his deputy from the state.
Nevertheless, he stated some forces within the state have since been pursuing them as an alternative of working in the direction of making the state secure.
He added that among the suspended lawmakers had been attacked by thugs linked to a politician within the state throughout the marriage ceremony of the deputy governor's daughter on February 24.
He stated there was a letter with reference quantity ZMHA/ADM/223/Vol. 1, dated March 7, has now directed them to return the official automobiles of their custody to the Clerk of the State Meeting inside seven days.
Aliyu, representing Gumi 1 Constituency, stated: “We want to convey to your consideration that democracy in Zamfara State is in danger regardless of the prevailing insecurity and different challenges confronted by the folks of the state.
“We due to this fact name for the intervention of key stakeholders to salvage the scenario.”
