The Borno authorities on Sunday reaffirmed its ban on unlawful mining and warned defaulters of dire penalties.

The State Commissioner for Info and Inner Safety, Prof. Usman Tar, in an announcement on Sunday in Maiduguri, urged the general public to strictly adhere to the ban.

“The army and safety forces are urged to be vigilant and arrest defaulters.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the ban on unlawful mining stays in impact in gentle of the delicate safety state of affairs in Borno.

“Let's implement the ban. Any unlawful miner caught will likely be prosecuted,” he warned.

The Information Company of Nigeria reported on Sunday that 17 strong minerals have been present in Borno, in line with the Nigerian Funding Promotion Fee.

The minerals embody feldspar, limestone, kaolin, potash, iron ore, quartz, magnetite, diatomaceous earth, trona, mica, silica sand, gypsum, granite, flutter earth and uranium.
