European intelligence sources confirmed that the Golbon left Taikang, China, approximately three weeks prior, carrying a nearly 1,000-ton load of sodium perchlorate. This chemical can generate enough solid fuel for around 260 Kheibar Shekan missiles or 200 Haj Qasem ballistic missiles. This delivery suggests Iran may be on the brink of re-entering missile production, contrary to expectations that it would take longer to recover from recent setbacks.
The procurement of sodium perchlorate was executed on behalf of Iran’s Self-Sufficient Jihad Organization (SSJO), which oversees ballistic missile development. Moreover, a second ship, the Jairan, is scheduled to transport an additional 1,000 tons, but it has yet to depart China. Both vessels operate under the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL).
China’s Foreign Ministry, responding to inquiries, indicated it was unaware of the specific case regarding the shipment. The ministry reiterated its stance against “illegal unilateral sanctions” and unfounded allegations. Tensions remain high, particularly following Israel’s targeted operations against Iranian military installations and facilities over the past year, including a notable strike against a nuclear research lab in November.
