The Sudanese military leaders, who came to power after al-Bashir’s ousting in 2019, previously indicated the plan was being reviewed and that the base had not yet been built.
During discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Sharif emphasized that there are no disagreements regarding the agreement, mentioning that the only remaining matter is its ratification. He stated, “There are no obstacles, we are in full agreement,” although he provided no further details about the base’s construction plan.
