Inuwa Garba, Chairman of Nigeria’s House Committee on Science and Engineering, called for stronger ties with Taiwan in science and technology. This cooperation aims to enhance Nigeria’s economic development by leveraging Taiwan’s technological expertise. Both sides recognize the mutual benefits that such a partnership could bring, particularly in sectors like agriculture and energy.

In a recent meeting with Taiwan’s representative, Andy Yih-Ping Liu, Inuwa Garba, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Science and Engineering, advocated for enhanced collaboration between Nigeria and Taiwan in science, engineering, and technology. This initiative aims to bolster economic development in Nigeria, recognized as Africa’s largest economy.

Garba expressed appreciation for the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Taiwan, highlighting Taiwan’s critical role in Nigeria’s socio-economic development. He stated that Nigeria has abundant opportunities and that strong ties with Taiwan would yield reciprocal benefits for both nations.

Highlighting global economic challenges, Garba emphasized the necessity of leveraging technological innovations to foster national development. He asserted that his committee is committed to facilitating partnerships and ensuring legislative support for collaborative ventures with Taiwan.

Citing Taiwan’s inspiring development trajectory despite its lack of natural resources, Garba pointed out Nigeria’s struggles with underdevelopment, exacerbated by insufficient technology. He noted that sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and energy in Nigeria stand to gain significantly from Taiwan’s technological expertise.

Garba assured the Taiwanese delegation that the Nigerian parliament would strive to create policy frameworks conducive to deeper bilateral cooperation. He stated, “We will not stop at just this meeting,” indicating ongoing efforts to institutionalize the partnership materializing in economic growth for Nigerians.

In response, Liu reinforced Taiwan’s dedication to strengthening collaboration with Nigeria, citing Taiwan’s success achieved through education and technological investment. Liu remarked, “We admire Nigeria’s vast resources and potential,” emphasizing the mutual benefits anticipated from a partnership between both countries.

The call for enhanced Nigeria-Taiwan collaboration emphasizes the need for technological advancements to address underdevelopment in Nigeria. With a shared commitment to fostering economic growth through innovation and policy support, both nations stand to gain from this partnership, aimed at leveraging Taiwan’s technological expertise alongside Nigeria’s natural resources.
