Iran’s Foreign Minister has called on the OIC to hold an emergency meeting regarding U.S.-Israeli plans to displace Palestinians from Gaza. Araghchi stressed the urgent need for Islamic nations to unite in defense of Palestinian rights, labeling the plan as a serious crime with global repercussions. OIC Secretary-General Taha is considering the proposal and will consult member states.
Tehran – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene an emergency meeting to address the “disgraceful” plan by the U.S. and Israel to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza. He emphasized the obligation of Islamic nations to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, particularly their right to self-determination.
Araghchi stated, “The plan to forcibly displace Palestinians from Gaza is not only a major crime and tantamount to genocide but will also have dangerous implications for regional and global stability and peace.” He stressed the need for a unified response from the Muslim world to counteract this agenda.
The Iranian minister reiterated that Islamic countries must advocate for the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, focusing on their right to secure lives within their homeland. In response, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha acknowledged Araghchi’s call and indicated he would consult with other member states about the proposed extraordinary meeting.
The call for an emergency OIC meeting comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the plight of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The U.S.-Israeli plan involves actions perceived as endangering the stability and safety of the Palestinian population, with serious humanitarian implications. The OIC represents a collective of Muslim nations committed to addressing such humanitarian crises and ensuring support for oppressed populations, notably concerning the Palestinian rights to self-determination.
The Iranian request for an emergency OIC meeting highlights the serious concerns surrounding U.S.-Israeli plans for displacing Gazans. Emphasizing collective responsibility among Islamic nations, the call aims to ensure that the rights of Palestinians are defended and to maintain regional stability. The OIC’s potential response will be pivotal in uniting member states against perceived violations of Palestinian rights.
