On March 18, 2025, a trilateral meeting in Doha, Qatar, was held between leaders of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, facilitated by AUC Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf. The meeting included President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC, under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
Chairperson Youssouf praised both leaders for their dedication to dialogue and the peaceful resolution of the Eastern DRC crisis, highlighting the essential need for peace, security, and stability for national and regional prosperity. He acknowledged their commitment to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, as established during prior EAC and SADC discussions in Dar es Salaam on February 8, 2025.
The African Union emphasized its support for African-led solutions, referencing the Luanda and Nairobi processes, while affirming the value of the Doha discussions in enhancing ongoing efforts for sustainable peace. The Chairperson underlined the importance of ongoing cooperation among the African Union, regional economic communities, and international partners.
Youssouf thanked Qatar and its Amir for their role in fostering dialogue and confidence-building initiatives. He urged all parties to sustain the momentum initiated in Doha and collaborate on fully implementing the agreed commitments, reiterating the AUC’s readiness to support peace, security, and stability initiatives throughout Africa.
