The first leg of Season 3 of the MTN CHAMPS, held in Benin, showcased strong performances from three teams: Government Model, Delta Secondary School, and Vision High. Each team demonstrated prowess across various divisions, particularly in the Cadet, Youth, Junior, and Senior categories.
In the Cadet Girls’ (U-14) division, Delta Secondary School triumphed with 50 points. Ado Girls followed with 33 points, while SAM-KAY claimed third with 20 points. Conversely, the Boys’ division witnessed Government Model Asaba dominating with 86 points, significantly outpacing Benin Technical’s 43 points, thanks to standout athletes David Ekunwe and Daniel Okwokwo.
Vision High excelled in the Youth Girls’ (U-17) category, scoring 102 points, largely credited to Blessing Ezeh’s double in Shot Put and Discus Throw which provided 20 points. The Lord’s Own Int’l School and Osadenis finished second and third with 39 and 31 points, respectively. In the Youth Boys’ category, Government Model secured 58 points, leaving Beje High School in second with 35 points and Vision High in third at 28 points.
The Junior (U-20) Team competition saw Delta State achieve a remarkable 162 points. Bosa David Kosisochukwu and Success Okeleke dominated the throwing events, with Kosisochukwu winning gold in Shot Put and Javelin, alongside a bronze in Discus Throw. HIT finished second with 94 points, while Global Power rounded out the podium with 79 points.
In the Senior Team category, Team Bayelsa claimed victory with 114 points, defeating Edo, which tallied 87 points. Team MTN concluded the event with a score of 48 points. Following this electrifying commencement, the MTN CHAMPS now prepares for its upcoming event in Lagos, scheduled for April 9th to 12th.
