Wärtsilä is supplying three Wärtsilä 20 engines for each of two pusher tugs, Decatur Lady and Tendota, owned by ADM in Paraguay. Wärtsilä has been chosen to supply replacement engines for two pusher tugs operating on Paraguayan rivers, owned by ADM Naviera Chaco S.R.L., a subsidiary of the agribusiness leader ADM. The installation and modifications of these vessels will occur in Asuncion, Paraguay. The tugs, Decatur Lady and Tendota, will each receive three Wärtsilä 20 engines, which were delivered to the shipyard earlier this year.
The Wärtsilä 20 engines are compact, lightweight, and designed for fuel flexibility and reliable performance in both genset and main engine applications. This upgrade will significantly reduce the environmental impact and enhance the efficiency of the pusher tugs. ADM aims to lower emissions by 25% by 2035, making this technological advancement crucial for their goals in South America.
Raul Valdez, logistics director at ADM Naviera Chaco S.R.L., expressed, “The Wärtsilä engines selected for this project have the fuel flexibility that we seek, especially as we look to the potential of alternative future fuels. At the same time, the project will help us to improve operational reliability and lower our maintenance costs.”
