The Rule of Law Caucus has boycotted the Majority Bloc’s reconciliation meeting, calling it a facade. Spokesperson Dixon Seboe claims the meeting aims to disguise the arbitrary suspension of a member, which undermines free speech. The caucus condemned the suspension as unconstitutional and raised concerns over ongoing leadership crises in Liberia’s House of Representatives.
CAPITOL HILL, Monrovia – The Rule of Law Caucus has opted to boycott the Majority Bloc’s reconciliation meeting, labeling it a facade. Spokesperson Dixon Seboe, representing District 16 in Montserrado County, claims that the meeting serves to obscure the Majority Bloc’s arbitrary suspension of a member, which he believes undermines freedom of speech and expression.
In a discussion on Bana FM, Seboe stated the Majority Bloc’s efforts lack genuine intent for reconciliation, rendering their meeting meaningless for the Rule of Law Caucus. He expressed the caucus’s anticipation of the Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Bill of Information scheduled for Friday, March 14, hoping for a definitive ruling.
Moreover, Seboe criticized the participation of Representative Ellen Attoh-Wreh in the meeting, pointing out her attendance at an International Women’s Day conference in the United States. This raised additional questions about the Bloc’s commitment to inclusivity and genuine dialogue.
The Rule of Law Caucus also released a statement condemning the Majority Bloc’s suspension of Representative Yekeh Kolubah as illegal and unconstitutional. The caucus’s consistent opposition to the Majority Bloc’s actions includes previous withdrawals from sessions led by Speaker Richard Nagbe Koon, emphasizing the need for respect towards the Supreme Court to maintain Liberia’s democratic principles.
The ongoing leadership crisis within the House of Representatives has sparked significant concerns regarding governance and adherence to the rule of law in Liberia. These developments highlight the urgent need for effective dialogue and resolution to restore democratic integrity.
The Rule of Law Caucus’s boycott of the Majority Bloc’s meeting underscores deep-seated tensions within Liberia’s political landscape. Their condemnation of the Bloc’s actions and ongoing leadership crisis raises critical concerns about governance and democratic processes in the country. Moving forward, the resolution of these issues will depend on adherence to the rule of law and respect for free expression.
