Botswana Diamonds has applied for eleven Prospecting Licenses for polymetallic targets in Botswana, identified via an AI exploration program. This initiative targets key minerals including Copper, Silver, Cobalt, Gold, Nickel, Zinc, and PGM across 7,322 square kilometers, building on initial diamond exploration efforts.
Botswana Diamonds has applied for eleven Prospecting Licenses focused on polymetallic targets identified through its Artificial Intelligence (AI) exploration program in Botswana. These licenses encompass key mineral resources such as Copper, Silver, Cobalt, Gold, Nickel, Zinc, and Platinum Group Metals (PGM). The exploration program has transitioned from an initial diamond focus to include discoveries of hidden polymetallic deposits, covering a total area of 7,322 square kilometers.
The prospecting licenses target five distinct mineralization types:
1. Besshi (Volcanogenic Massive Sulfide Deposits) – Primarily Copper.
2. Greenstone – Associated with Copper and Nickel.
3. Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) Deposits – Yielding Lead and Zinc.
4. Sedimentary Exhalative (Sedex) Deposits – Containing Lead, Zinc, and Silver.
5. Ultramafic – Targeting Platinum Group Metals.
Chairman John Teeling stated that the initial AI-driven exploration focused on diamonds, but analysis uncovered opportunities for various other minerals. The successful identification of multiple targets in copper, cobalt, zinc, and gold led to the submission of eleven applications for prospecting licenses, which have since been accepted.
Botswana Diamonds’ recent move to secure eleven Prospecting Licenses indicates a significant shift in focus from solely diamonds to exploring diverse polymetallic deposits. This strategic expansion could enhance the company’s mineral portfolio, with AI technology playing a crucial role in identifying new opportunities across various mineral types.
