Emphasizing robust economic management and inter-ministerial collaboration, Shettima called for strategic coherence to maximize outcomes from the dialogue. The meeting will address agriculture, culture, military, and health sectors, further enhancing bilateral relations with Brazil.
Vice President Kashim Shettima stated that Nigeria is entering a new growth phase, driven by President Bola Tinubu’s courageous leadership and well-structured policies. This announcement coincides with the upcoming Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism, where Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, will lead executives from both public and private sectors for discussions after more than ten years.
During a meeting at the State House in Abuja, Shettima highlighted the efforts of the economic management team, led by Finance Minister Wale Edun, in stabilizing Nigeria’s economy. He praised Tinubu’s leadership for fostering optimism and mentioned that key sectors must be well-prepared for the dialogue.
Shettima emphasized the importance of strategic coherence and understanding among ministers to ensure effective discussions. He expressed the need to engage with focus groups to gain updates aimed at maximizing the visit’s impact and advancing Nigeria’s development goals.
Additionally, the partnership with Brazil presents opportunities for Nigeria in agriculture, tourism, and military technology. Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari noted the dialogue could revitalize Nigeria’s agricultural sector, crucial for food sovereignty. He stressed the need to take actionable steps toward this goal.
Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, highlighted Brazil’s significant Nigerian descent population and their interest in Nigerian culture. Plans to expand cultural diplomacy include rebuilding the Nigerian House in Brazil and hosting an Orisha Festival.
In defence cooperation, Minister Muhammad Badaru announced preparations for a defence agreement with Brazil, focusing on developing defence industries in Nigeria. Coordinating Minister of Health, Mohammed Ali Pate, discussed healthcare opportunities, particularly in pharmaceutical production, emphasizing the importance of unlocking the healthcare value chain with Brazilian collaboration.
The upcoming $1.1 billion Green Imperative Project reflects deepening relations with Brazil, enabling agricultural modernization and technology transfer. A Trade and Investment Forum will precede the vice president’s visit, further fostering partnerships in agriculture and industry.
Furthermore, Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised those managing the economy, commending their efforts to strengthen it. During a visit by Edun and ministry officials, she highlighted their exemplary work in improving Nigeria’s economic footing.
Edun affirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing Nigeria’s global trade competitiveness, looking to foster significant discussions during the African Export-Import Bank meeting later this month. He acknowledged economic improvements under Tinubu’s leadership, including stabilizing inflation and reducing prices, which benefit citizens and emphasize the nation’s resiliency in trade.
Nigeria is poised for economic growth through strategic initiatives under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. The upcoming Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism aims to enhance bilateral collaboration in various sectors, including agriculture and healthcare. Ministers are encouraged to prepare thoroughly, leveraging this partnership for Nigeria’s development. The government’s commitment to stabilizing the economy showcases the effectiveness of collaborative efforts and a renewed focus on making manufacturing and exports competitive globally.
