On Tuesday, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met with Kate Forbes, the President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The discussion focused on humanitarian efforts concerning Gaza and Egypt’s role in facilitating aid deliveries. The meeting included Egyptian Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy and Ambassador Mohamed Mounir, highlighting the partnership between Egypt and IFRC.
Madbouly praised the IFRC as the largest humanitarian organization network, which includes over 190 national societies and 16 million volunteers. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to collaborating with the IFRC on recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza. He acknowledged that despite obstacles, Egypt had delivered more than 7,000 aid trucks to Gaza from January 19 to March 2, with 70% of this aid originating from Egypt since the onset of the crisis in October 2023.
Madbouly commented on the challenges posed by Israeli practices that hinder aid access, noting the urgent need for assistance in Gaza, especially during Ramadan. He expressed hope that the IFRC network would actively participate in the early recovery and reconstruction phases over the coming months. He also highlighted Egypt’s support for Sudanese refugees, establishing five humanitarian service points along the Sudan border.
Kate Forbes commended the collaboration between IFRC and the Egyptian government, emphasizing Egypt’s significant role in providing humanitarian aid to Gaza. She expressed anticipation for enhanced cooperation on Gaza’s reconstruction plan and the desire to expand the IFRC’s regional activities from Egypt. Forbes also acknowledged Egypt’s efforts in aiding Sudanese refugees.
Maya Morsy thanked Prime Minister Madbouly for facilitating humanitarian aid to Gaza and expressed eagerness to work with the IFRC on the humanitarian aspects of the reconstruction initiatives.
