On March 10, 2025, Tropical Cyclone Jude struck the coast of Mozambique around 06:00 local time, severely impacting the Mossuril district in Nampula Province. This marked the third cyclone to hit the region within three months, bringing intense flooding and destruction.

Cyclone Jude produced maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h (75 mph), with gusts reaching 195 km/h (120 mph). These winds, alongside heavy rainfall, resulted in extensive damage, including power outages affecting approximately 40,000 households.

The cyclone’s heavy rainfall was reported at up to 200 mm (7.9 inches) over 24 hours, especially impacting coastal districts such as Memba, Monapo, Mossuril, Mozambique Island, and Nacala. Severe flooding led to property damage, destruction of homes, and road impairments across these regions.

In response to the hazardous conditions, the provincial education directorate ordered the closure of all schools in the province for the day. As of now, there have been no reported fatalities or injuries, and assessments of the cyclone’s impact are ongoing.

Additionally, Mozambique Airlines canceled all domestic flights to northern cities until conditions improve, ensuring affected passengers are accommodated once safe travel resumes.

Tropical Cyclone Jude has significantly impacted Mozambique, causing severe flooding and widespread damage, particularly in Nampula Province. While emergency measures, such as school closures, are in effect, evaluations of the cyclone’s damage continue. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported to date.
