He emphasized, “A comeback is always possible. Together, we can make COP30 the moment we change course.”
Correa do Lago, a seasoned climate negotiator, underscored that change is inevitable and must be pursued proactively to prevent societal and economic disruptions from unchecked global warming. As part of its COP30 efforts, Brazil aims to mobilize $1.3 trillion annually by 2035 for climate finance in developing nations, significantly exceeding the $300 billion commitment made at COP29 in Baku. To facilitate this ambition, Brazil has initiated the “Baku to Belem Roadmap to 1.3T” to explore further financing opportunities.
In addition to financial mobilization, Brazil is pushing for an interim stocktake of climate action to reflect on barriers obstructing progress. As the first Global Stocktake under the 2015 Paris Agreement occurred at COP28, Brazil aims to encourage a timely and honest evaluation of current climate goals.
Furthermore, Brazil plans to establish a “Circle of Presidencies” to bring together past COP hosts along with leaders from other environmental conventions.
