President Ahmed al-Shara recently met with Dr. Mustafa al-Bakour, the governor of Sweida, along with local activists at the People’s Palace in Damascus. Hekmat al-Hajri, the spiritual leader of the Druze community in Syria, highlighted their commitment to national integrity and their rejection of any division plans. The Druze population, primarily concentrated in Sweida, constitutes approximately 3% of Syria’s total population. In response to rising tensions, including controversial comments by Israeli officials regarding the Druze community, local leaders have reaffirmed their allegiance to Syrian unity and called for safeguarding their community’s rights.
Al-Shara further urged the international community to compel Israel to withdraw from contested areas in southern Syria, reiterating the commitment to national sovereignty and the welfare of all Syrians.
