Petrobras completed a successful drill stem test at the Sirius-2 well off Colombia’s coast, confirming significant gas productivity. This well represents the largest gas discovery in Colombia’s history, with potential reserves increasing by 200%. Petrobras and Ecopetrol jointly operate the site, while the company also engages in broader strategic oil and gas initiatives.
Petrobras has successfully completed a drill stem test (DST) at the Sirius-2 well, located 31 kilometers off Colombia’s coast, achieving a depth of 804 meters. This test evaluated a 100-meter reservoir interval and confirmed good productivity. Situated in the GUA-OFF-0 offshore block, about 77 kilometers from Santa Marta, initial laboratory analysis suggests a significant gas presence in the area.
The Sirius-2 well, discovered in December 2024, is associated with the highest gas volumes in Colombian history, exceeding six trillion cubic feet. This discovery could potentially boost Colombia’s current gas reserves by 200%. Petrobras, through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro – Sucursal Colombia, holds a 44.44% stake in this endeavor, while Ecopetrol owns 55.56%.
Previously named Uchuva-2, the Sirius-2 well marks the second well drilled in this area, following Sirius-1 (formerly Uchuva-1). The consortium plans to continue evaluating the drilling results from both wells, ensuring compliance with commitments to Colombia’s Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos.
Additionally, in February 2025, Petrobras established a strategic term contract with Bharat Petroleum Corporation to supply Brazilian crude oil grades and also formed partnerships with ONGC Videsh and Oil India for oil and gas exploration opportunities.
The completion of the drilling test at Sirius-2 marks a significant milestone in Colombia’s gas exploration efforts, asserting a potential 200% increase in gas reserves.
