The PSC has announced that 205 clerical officers failed a September 2024 proficiency exam, with many required to resit specific subjects. The most failed subject was Human Resource Services. Meanwhile, 673 candidates passed the exam, with their results published alongside those who need to retake subjects.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) of Kenya has released a notice regarding the results of the proficiency examination for clerical officers that took place between September 23 and 26, 2024. Out of the candidates, 205 clerical officers failed the exam and are required to retake the subjects they did not pass, as detailed in the Kenya Gazette issued on March 7.
The notice specified the subjects that each of the 205 candidates failed, highlighting that Human Resource Services was the most failed elective subject among various ministries. Other subjects with significant failures included communication skills, supply services, records management, and accounts. Candidates came from numerous government ministries, notably the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, as well as Public Service, Defence, Education, and National Treasury faculties.
Additionally, candidates from the county governments of Nakuru, Taita Taveta, and Turkana were included in the list of those who did not pass. Furthermore, one candidate from the Ministry of Interior had their results annulled due to examination irregularities, according to the PSC statement.
Despite the failures, the PSC reported that 673 clerical officers successfully passed the proficiency examination. Their names and the elective subjects they passed are also included in the notice, showcasing a significant number of successful candidates amidst the challenges faced by some individuals.
The PSC’s recent notice indicates that while several clerical officers faced failures in the proficiency examination, a larger group successfully passed. The emphasis on retakes for those who failed and the identification of subjects with high failure rates demonstrate the PSC’s commitment to monitoring and improving proficiency levels within the public service sector.
