Sheikh Naim Qassem, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, has reiterated the necessity of reinstating suspended flights between Iran and Lebanon, calling it essential for enhancing bilateral relations. In a recent interview with Al-Manar TV, Qassem expressed, “We are determined to resume flights with Iran, our steadfast ally, and are working with the Lebanese government to resolve this issue.”
The flight ban, in effect since February, was implemented after Israeli allegations suggested that these flights were transporting supplies to Hezbollah. Analysts believe this suspension was aimed at isolating Hezbollah and curbing Iranian involvement in key events, including funeral ceremonies for prominent Hezbollah leaders.
Although the new Lebanese authorities claimed that European sanctions were responsible for the cancellations, they have not clarified how these sanctions imposed on Iran would legally impact Lebanon’s operations.
During his interview, Qassem highlighted the importance of Iranian support at the recent funerals of martyrs, emphasizing the significant turnout of Iranian delegations crossing borders to honor them. “Even as roads were blocked, Iranians poured in to honor our martyrs,” he noted, reflecting on solidarity amidst restrictions.
Qassem issued a stern warning to the United States and Israel, stating that any military actions against Iran would have dire repercussions for the region. Prominent Iranian figures like Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi were present to reinforce Iran’s connections with Lebanese Resistance during these ceremonies, meeting with Qassem afterward.
