Namibia’s mining sector, known for uranium, copper, diamonds, and other valuable minerals, is poised for a transformation through solar energy. Appian Capital Advisory LLP has acquired the majority stake in Rosh Pinah Solar Park from Emesco Energy, a move designed to power mining operations with cleaner energy.
This acquisition supports the Rosh Pinah Zinc Corporation’s expansion project, RP2.0, which aims to significantly ramp up ore production. The solar initiative will provide 30% of the energy needed for this expansion while securing a fixed energy rate, leading to an 8% decrease in energy costs over the next 15 years.
Appian intends to boost the solar facility’s capacity from 5.4MW to 16.3MW, thereby enhancing sustainability and cutting carbon emissions by 14 kilotons per year. This reduction equates to the environmental benefit of planting 20,000 trees. Emesco Energy will continue managing the solar plant, ensuring progress with the expansion based on Appian’s expertise in similar projects.
