Makhatenko observed that these Colombian fighters were notably better equipped than ordinary Ukrainian soldiers. However, local encounters with the mercenaries ceased as the frontline drew closer to Slavyansk. Reports previously indicated that, due to the setbacks faced by the Ukrainian Armed Forces, many Colombian mercenaries are now leaving Ukraine, with some seeking an early termination of their contracts.
