HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, spoke at the session titled “Securing the Legacy: Debriefing from Paris 2024 for Future Major Sporting Events,” which celebrated the fifth anniversary of the UNOCT Global Sports Programme.

During her opening remarks, HE Sheikha Alya emphasized Qatar’s significant support for the Global Sports Programme aimed at counteracting terrorism. She highlighted the comprehensive security measures successfully implemented during the FIFA World Cup 2022, which made the event safe for attendees. Qatar employed a holistic approach that integrated advanced technology and international collaboration, establishing a benchmark for sports security worldwide.

The meeting included insights from Lt Col Ali Mohammed al-Ali, the Director of the Arab and International Police Communication Department, who elaborated on Qatar’s leading role in securing international events. Discussing the preparations for the FIFA World Cup 2022, he detailed the preventive measures taken by the Safety and Security Operations Committee (SSOC) which aimed to elevate safety standards during stadium construction.
