Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani has warned against military action targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities, labeling it a potential threat to regional stability. He emphasized in a recent interview with Tucker Carlson that such strikes could lead to widespread war and environmental disasters, adversely affecting millions in the region.
Al-Thani highlighted the ecological implications of attacks on facilities like the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. He stated that contamination could severely impact the desalination infrastructure in the Persian Gulf, threatening water supplies for Qatar, Kuwait, and the UAE. He described the situation as critical, noting, “Without clean water, Qatar would run dry in three days. This isn’t hypothetical—it’s existential.”
U.S. intelligence has reportedly warned that Israel might attempt strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, raising concerns of a broader conflict. Iranian officials have reacted strongly, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi cautioning that any attack could lead to widespread destruction in the region. Additionally, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh of the IRGC warned of a catastrophic response to any airstrike on nuclear facilities.
Regarding regional partnerships, Al-Thani pointed to collaborations between Iran and Qatar in managing the South Pars/North Dome gas field. He noted that maintaining peaceful relations with neighbors is essential for stability.
