BCB President Faruque Ahmed has noted that Pakistan may tour Bangladesh in mid-2025 for white-ball matches, following an upcoming series in May. Preparations for the 2027 World Cup are underway, along with leadership discussions for the T20I team and plans for a farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim after his ODI retirement.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed announced that Pakistan is likely to tour Bangladesh in mid-2025 for a series of white-ball matches. Initial discussions have confirmed a potential tour in July, which will be finalized later. This aligns with the Future Tours Programme (FTP) as Bangladesh is scheduled to visit Pakistan in May for three ODIs and three T20Is.
In talks with PCB’s chief Mohsin Naqvi during the Champions Trophy, an agreement was reached regarding this reciprocal tour. “The PCB told us that they would tour Bangladesh outside of the FTP,” Faruque mentioned. He also expressed interest in Bangladesh participating in a future tri-series involving Pakistan, should the timing be appropriate.
Following Bangladesh’s exit from the Champions Trophy, the BCB is focusing on preparations for the 2027 World Cup, which will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. Faruque indicated that he would support the operations committee led by Najmul Abedin Faheem to devise strategies for the future.
With Najmul Hossain Shanto stepping down as captain, a new T20I captain will be identified from past team leaders, with Litton Das being a front-runner. “We will try to appoint a captain from among those who have captained the team recently,” Faruque stated.
The BCB is also planning a farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently retired from ODIs. Faruque emphasized the need to honor Rahim, highlighting his legacy and contributions to Bangladesh cricket over 19 years, particularly referring to his influential role in the 2007 World Cup.
In summary, the BCB has confirmed the possibility of a Pakistani tour to Bangladesh in mid-2025 for white-ball matches. Preparations for the 2027 World Cup are underway, alongside discussions regarding leadership and honoring legends like Mushfiqur Rahim. These developments reflect the BCB’s commitment to advancing cricket in Bangladesh.
