Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Mauritius on March 11 and 12 to serve as the Chief Guest at the 57th National Day celebrations. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed his participation, which coincides with the country’s National Day on March 12. An Indian defence forces contingent, alongside a naval ship, will also be present during the festivities.
During this visit, PM Modi is set to meet with the President of Mauritius and engage with his Mauritian counterpart as well as other prominent leaders. This trip marks Modi’s first visit to Mauritius since 2015.
Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam announced Modi’s attendance in parliament, expressing gratitude for his agreement to attend as the Guest of Honour. Ramgoolam emphasized the significance of this visit, considering Modi’s busy schedule with recent international travels.
He further noted that hosting PM Modi reflects the strong ties between India and Mauritius, highlighting the importance of this relationship. Modi has consistently underscored New Delhi’s commitment to this enduring partnership, describing it as “special” and “unique.”
Earlier, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Mauritius in July 2024, focusing on discussions about various aspects of bilateral relations. His engagements included collaborations in development, defense, maritime cooperation, trade, and enhancing people-to-people connections. During his visit, 12 community development projects were inaugurated, addressing sectors such as infrastructure and healthcare.
PM Modi’s upcoming visit to Mauritius not only celebrates the island nation’s National Day but also reinforces India’s commitment to nurturing bilateral ties. The visit, coupled with the presence of Indian defense forces, symbolizes the strategic partnership between both countries.
