Việt Nam and Kenya aim to enhance their diplomatic and economic relations. Vietnamese Ambassador Vũ Thanh Huyền reaffirmed her commitment to improving bilateral cooperation during her term, marking a pivotal moment in their partnership. On March 5, she presented her letter of credence to Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto in Nairobi, seeking his support for stronger ties and the establishment of honorary consuls to facilitate trade and economic collaboration.
Ambassador Huyền extended an invitation from Vietnamese State President Lương Cường for President Ruto to visit Việt Nam and participate in the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Summit (P4G), scheduled for April 2025 in Hà Nội. President Ruto acknowledged the growing collaboration between the two nations, highlighting strong engagements across various sectors and expressing confidence in Huyền’s role in advancing their partnership.
In discussions with Ambassador Eliphas Brine, Director-General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Huyền emphasized the need for improved cooperation through delegation exchanges and coordination between the foreign ministries of both countries. This initiative follows a successful February visit to Kenya by Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyễn Minh Hằng.
Ambassador Brine concurred on the necessity to enhance delegation exchanges, deepen bilateral ties, and strengthen mutual support in international forums. During her Kenya visit, Huyền also met with ambassadors from several ASEAN countries, further fostering diplomatic relations. Việt Nam and Kenya officially established diplomatic ties on December 21, 1995.
The diplomatic relationship between Việt Nam and Kenya is set to strengthen through the appointment of honorary consuls and mutual support in trade and economic collaboration. Ambassador Huyền’s discussions highlight the importance of delegation exchanges and coordination between the two countries’ foreign ministries. Both nations are optimistic about enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in light of upcoming diplomatic events like the P4G Summit.
