Kyrgyzstan Joins Regional Allies to Denounce Nazi Glorification at UN

Kyrgyzstan, along with Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, condemned glorification of Nazis at the UN Human Rights Council. They highlighted the immorality of equating responsibility for World War II between the Soviet Union and Germany and emphasized the importance of preserving the truth about the war and its millions of victims.

At the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan released a joint statement denouncing any glorification of Nazis as the 80th anniversary of World War II approaches. They emphasize that efforts to celebrate Nazi figures are utterly unacceptable.

The statement, presented by Russian delegate Evgeny Ustinov, cites the Nuremberg Tribunal’s verdict condemning Nazi actions during World War II. It highlighted the atrocities committed against civilians, asserting that these acts should be recognized as genocide against the Soviet populace.

Furthermore, the nations condemned narratives equating the responsibility of the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany for the war as “immoral and blasphemous.” They stressed the importance of honoring the memory of millions who perished fighting against Nazism.

The joint message emphasized the commitment to preserve the truth about the collective victory over Nazism and prevent the emergence of hatred and discrimination based on ethnic, racial, or religious backgrounds. The participants expressed a collective responsibility to combat such ideologies and protect human rights.

The joint statement from Kyrgyzstan and five other nations reflects a strong condemnation of attempts to glorify Nazi figures, affirming the historical context of World War II. By invoking the Nuremberg Tribunal’s verdict and emphasizing the humanitarian toll of the conflict, these countries collectively stress the need to safeguard the memory of the victims and the truth about the dangers of hatred and discrimination.
