This was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Mr. Yu Dunhai at Radio House, Abuja. The minister noted the importance of promoting useful information to bolster societal growth and unity rather than division.

Idris emphasized that fake news poses a significant global threat and underlined the necessity for both nations to disseminate accurate information about each other. He stated, “In this age where information can be useful and also dangerous at the same time, it is important that all countries respect the right information that you give out to people,” highlighting the global nature of misinformation.

He acknowledged China’s commitment to protecting its cultural integrity while also engaging internationally, reinforcing that Nigeria seeks mutually beneficial relations through accurate information exchange. The minister also affirmed Nigeria’s dedication to uphold all bilateral agreements with China, referencing existing collaborations with media entities.

During the visit, Ambassador Yu highlighted the 54-year relationship between Nigeria and China, emphasizing mutual respect and cooperation in challenging times. He expressed a desire to elevate the bilateral relationship further, noting, “We keep very close high-level communications, and our cooperation in various fields has brought a lot of tangible benefits for both of our nations.”
