On February 26, Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Zhou Ding participated in the launch and donation ceremony of the China-Aid “Bright Journey” Programme, aimed at providing cataract surgeries in Zimbabwe. The event was co-hosted with Douglas T. Mombeshora, Zimbabwe’s Minister of Health and Child Care, and included a delegation of Chinese medical professionals and local cataract patients.
Ambassador Zhou emphasized that the “Bright Journey” Programme marks a significant step toward fulfilling the Health Partnership Action for Health established during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). This initiative commemorates the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe, aiming to help over 600 patients recover their vision. He reaffirmed China’s dedication to fostering a health community and expanding medical collaboration with Zimbabwe.
Minister Mombeshora praised the “Bright Journey” Programme for not only restoring sight to cataract patients but also for restoring their dignity and hope. He highlighted that this initiative exemplifies the idea that health transcends borders and serves as a testament to the enduring friendship between Zimbabwe and China. He expressed aspirations for more successful outcomes in bilateral medical cooperation.
