Morocco has pledged continued support for nuclear and radiation safety in Africa, sharing expertise and training professionals from 21 countries. At the IAEA Board of Governors, Morocco’s efforts to strengthen its nuclear safety framework were highlighted, alongside its commitment to uphold international standards and obligations. The Kingdom’s active participation enhances regional safety and cooperation in line with IAEA objectives.
At the recent International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors meeting, Moroccan diplomat Farhane emphasized the Kingdom’s dedication to South-South cooperation, particularly in nuclear safety. He expressed Morocco’s intent to utilize its expertise to assist other African nations and to bolster collective efforts in enhancing global nuclear safety standards as part of the IAEA’s mission.
Farhane highlighted the IAEA Director General’s report for 2025, which acknowledges Morocco’s role in improving regional nuclear safety. He noted that Morocco has trained experts from 21 African countries in nuclear and radiation safety, conducting numerous workshops aimed at strengthening safety measures across the continent.
The diplomat reiterated Morocco’s belief that nuclear safety is the sovereign responsibility of each state, aligned with their national and international obligations. Morocco is committed to expanding its legislative framework relating to nuclear safety to comply with both domestic and international safety standards.
Additionally, Morocco has continually upgraded its regulatory infrastructure to meet IAEA standards on nuclear and radiation safety and security, reflecting its commitment to creating a safe environment in line with best practices.
