Indonesian Surgeons Impressed by Iranian-Made Sina Robots in Surgery

Iranian-made Sina robots are gaining recognition from Indonesian surgeons for their effectiveness in surgical applications. The system, used in hospitals, allows for precise robot-assisted telesurgery and aims to connect Indonesia’s islands. The robots mirror surgeons’ movements, optimizing recovery times and surgical outcomes, and have garnered international attention with multiple patents and research backing.

Indonesian surgeons have expressed admiration for the capabilities of Iranian-made Sina robots, as highlighted in a recent report by the Fars news agency. These robots have been deployed in hospitals across Indonesia for surgical procedures, where the medical staff has reported satisfaction with their performance.

Following the introduction of the Sina Surgical System two years ago, around 100 new surgeons have sought training on its use, complementing the 112 trained surgeons currently utilizing the system for robot-assisted telesurgery operations.

The Indonesian government envisions using the Sina robots to enhance its Robotic Telesurgery Center, aiming to link the nation’s islands that are separated by a distance of 3,500 kilometers once approvals are obtained.

Sina robots, developed over 20 years at Tehran’s University of Medical Sciences, replicate the hand movements of surgeons through a minimally invasive surgical technique that involves only a 5-millimeter incision. This method significantly expedites patient recovery and allows for precise wound closure.

The system translates each centimeter of the surgeon’s hand movement into a one-millimeter motion on the patient, enabling intricate suturing while minimizing size discrepancy during operations.

The innovative design of Sina is the result of Iranian engineering prowess, garnering 10 patents in the U.S. and other countries, along with recognition in over 70 scholarly articles.

Furthermore, interest from Russian government agencies regarding the Sina system has also been noted in various reports.

The introduction of Iranian-made Sina robots in Indonesian surgical practices marks a significant development in robotic telesurgery, with surgeons reporting favorable outcomes. The technology not only improves surgical precision but also supports the country’s ambition to enhance connectivity between its distant regions. Continuing interest from various international entities further emphasizes its potential medical impacts.
