Egypt to Present Gaza Reconstruction Plan at Arab Summit Amid US Proposals

Egypt plans to present a Gaza reconstruction proposal at an emergency Arab summit. The plan seeks international support for Palestinian rights amid criticism of US displacement proposals. Following the summit, a meeting of Islamic Cooperation ministers will aim to globally promote the summit’s results. A successful ceasefire implementation is also a key priority.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty announced that a Gaza reconstruction plan, which upholds the rights of Palestinians to remain on their land, will be unveiled at the upcoming emergency Arab summit. This plan aims to gain international support for successful implementation, moving beyond solely Egyptian or Arab frameworks.

Abdelatty stated that after the emergency summit on March 4, a ministerial meeting for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will occur to ensure that the summit’s decisions are broadcasted globally. He emphasized the importance of presenting these outcomes effectively on the world stage.

The announcement comes as US President Donald Trump proposed a plan that involves displacing Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries, which has been met with international backlash and rejection from Palestinian leaders. Trump’s plan, introduced during a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has incited significant condemnation.

Additionally, Israeli Minister of Military Affairs Israel Katz has reportedly directed the military to prepare for a strategy facilitating the voluntary departure of Palestinians from Gaza, a plan rejected by Egypt and Jordan. Arab states are currently seeking a united diplomatic strategy to oppose these proposals.

Abdelatty also reiterated the importance of adhering to the ceasefire agreement from January, stressing the successful conclusion of the first phase and the necessity of progressing into discussions for the second phase, crucial for maintaining the ceasefire. Despite the casualties, including over 48,000 Palestinian deaths, the agreement has faced implementation challenges.

The upcoming emergency Arab summit will focus on presenting a reconstruction plan for Gaza, aiming to gather international support while safeguarding Palestinian rights. Amidst regional tensions raised by US proposals to displace Palestinians, Arab nations are uniting in opposition and actively pursuing avenues for diplomatic counteraction. The discussion around the ceasefire agreement will also play a critical role in ensuring stability moving forward.
