Musalia Mudavadi urges Kenyans to independently finance their healthcare system due to reduced foreign aid. He emphasized local financing solutions for Universal Health Coverage and warned against politicizing health issues. During a funeral service, he honored Senator Cheptumo’s leadership while highlighting the need for sustainable healthcare financing in Kenya.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for Kenya to move away from dependence on foreign aid for its healthcare system. Highlighting the diminishing international funding, he emphasized the need for sustainable local financing methods to support Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Leaders and citizens are urged to collaborate in enhancing local healthcare finance to ensure services are both affordable and accessible.
Speaking at a funeral in Baringo County, Mudavadi referenced discussions in Geneva with the Global Fund, noting a recent successful replenishment effort led by President William Ruto that secured $28 billion for Kenya. He reiterated that there is an urgent need for the country to take ownership of its healthcare financing rather than relying on external sources. “The world is telling us to take care of our own sick and not to wait for external aid,” he stated.
Mudavadi cautioned against the politicization of health issues, stressing that healthcare should take precedence over political agendas. He affirmed that every Kenyan deserves access to quality medical services and emphasized collective responsibility to achieve this goal. “We can do politics with other things, but let us not do politics with the health of our people,” he urged.
During the funeral, Mudavadi paid tribute to the late Senator William Cheptumo, highlighting his leadership qualities and dedication to community issues. His commitment to addressing cattle rustling was particularly noted, showcasing his concern for the people of Baringo County. “Cheptumo was a forthright, focused, and solid leader,” Mudavadi remarked, reflecting on his integrity and service.
Additionally, the Prime Cabinet Secretary recognized the valuable contributions of the Tugen community in producing outstanding leaders like the late President Daniel Arap Moi. He accentuated the significance of Cheptumo’s legacy, which serves as an inspiration for future generations. The service was attended by significant political figures, underscoring the impact Senator Cheptumo had on the nation.
Musalia Mudavadi emphasized the necessity for Kenya to finance its own healthcare amidst declining foreign aid. He urged collaboration among citizens and leaders to strengthen local financing systems for Universal Health Coverage. He also condemned the politicization of health and honored the late Senator Cheptumo for his leadership, reflecting on his contributions and the legacy of the Tugen community’s leaders.
