The GYS 170 Certification, valid for two years, requires the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) to perform unannounced visits to ensure compliance. GNBS Executive Director Trevor Bassoo noted that the 2001 revision of the GYS 170 Certification aligned it more closely with ISO/IEC 17025 standards, moving locally certified labs like GPHC’s toward international accreditation. He emphasized that the increase in certified laboratories reflects a national shift toward standard adherence, contributing to reliable test results and a healthier population.

GPHC’s CEO Robbie Rambarran revealed plans to attain ISO accreditation by the end of Q2.
