Tanzania’s CCM Delegation Arrives in Namibia for Dr. Nujoma’s State Funeral

A delegation from Tanzania’s CCM, led by Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, has arrived in Namibia for the state funeral of Dr. Sam Nujoma, scheduled for March 1, 2025. The delegation will participate in memorial events starting February 27, demonstrating the historical ties and solidarity between Tanzania and Namibia, especially during their liberation struggles.

A delegation from Tanzania’s ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), has arrived in Namibia to honor the late Dr. Sam Nujoma at his state funeral. Led by Secretary-General Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, the delegation includes Comrade Rabia Abdalla Hamid. They landed in Windhoek on February 26, 2025, and were welcomed by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Namibia, Caesar Waitara.

The CCM delegation will engage in various activities to pay their respects, commencing on February 27 leading up to the state funeral on March 1. Namibia’s ruling party, SWAPO, which has a close alliance with CCM dating back to the liberation struggle, has organized memorial ceremonies in recognition of Nujoma’s contributions.

On February 28, Dr. Nchimbi is scheduled to attend a national memorial service before the funeral at Heroes’ Acre cemetery. The historical relationship between Tanzania and Namibia was strengthened during the 1960s, when SWAPO leaders sought refuge in Tanzania to fight for independence.

Dr. Nujoma, a key figure in Namibia’s liberation movement and the first president after independence, passed away on February 8 at the age of 95. A 2005 act of parliament formally designated him as the “Founding Father of the Namibian Nation,” recognizing his pivotal role in establishing Namibia’s freedom.

The Tanzanian delegation, led by CCM’s Secretary-General, will pay their last respects to Dr. Sam Nujoma, an influential leader in Namibia’s history, through a series of memorial events. This underscores the enduring friendship between Tanzania and Namibia, rooted in their shared struggle against colonialism.
