Midnight Sun Mining Reclaims Control of Zambia’s Promising Dumbwa Copper Target

Midnight Sun Mining Corp. has canceled its agreement with KoBold Metals, reclaiming full ownership of the Dumbwa Target in Zambia. The company plans a 2025 exploration program, led by COO Dr. Kevin Bonel, to investigate the copper-in-soil anomaly at Dumbwa, which shows potential similar to the Barrick Lumwana Mine. A geological mapping campaign and induced polarization survey are planned to characterize the mineralized units beneath the anomaly.

Midnight Sun Mining Corp. (TSXV:MMA) announced it has canceled its earn-in agreement with KoBold Metals, regaining full ownership of the Dumbwa Target within its Solwezi Project in Zambia. Although no field work was conducted by KoBold since the agreement’s inception last year, Midnight Sun is now set to initiate a 2025 exploration program led by COO Dr. Kevin Bonel.

Dumbwa, characterized by a 20-kilometre copper-in-soil anomaly, represents significant potential for a major copper discovery, drawing comparisons to Barrick’s Lumwana Mine, which is notable for its substantial copper production and similar geological features. Barrick has recently announced plans for a feasibility study to expand Lumwana’s operations, potentially doubling its copper output.

Midnight Sun’s President & CEO Al Fabbro emphasized the company’s long-standing exploration efforts in Zambia’s Domes Region, underscoring its history of significant copper discoveries. With Dr. Bonel, who previously transformed Lumwana into a high-value asset, now on board, Midnight Sun is poised to enhance its exploration at Dumbwa.

Dr. Bonel described Dumbwa as an ideal exploration target in the Zambian Copper Belt due to its favorable geological characteristics, including a robust geological team, coherent soil anomalies, and bedrock exposure. He noted that the copper-in-soil anomaly at Dumbwa is linked to copper sulfide mineralization in the underlying bedrock, with a higher copper concentration compared to Lumwana.

The 2025 exploration program will begin with an induced polarization (IP) survey, aimed at mapping the mineralized units beneath the copper anomaly. Following the survey, targeted drilling will be performed to assess the extent of the mineralized system at Dumbwa. This initiative aims to better understand the potential for establishing a large, near-surface copper deposit.

Midnight Sun plans to conduct a detailed geological mapping campaign alongside the IP survey to further investigate the mineralized units beneath the soil anomaly. The results will inform follow-up drilling, helping to build geological models and provide insights into the copper deposit’s potential. The exploration activities are anticipated to commence in Q2 2025, following the geological mapping and IP survey.

In summary, Midnight Sun Mining has regained full control of its Dumbwa copper target, preparing to conduct significant exploration efforts in 2025. Under the leadership of Dr. Kevin Bonel, the company plans to employ advanced geological mapping and induced polarization techniques to better understand the mineralization at Dumbwa, leveraging its similarities to the Lumwana Mine. The upcoming exploration could potentially validate Dumbwa as a major copper deposit in Zambia’s rich copper belt.
