A group of former vice-presidential candidates from the 2023 elections has launched the VPCADFLCG to tackle corruption and inequality in Liberia. Key speeches during the launch underscored the importance of unity and collaboration in driving systemic change for a prosperous future for Liberia.
Former vice-presidential candidates from the 2023 elections have united to form the Former Vice-Presidential Candidates and Defenders for Liberia Common Good (VPCADFLCG). This initiative aims to tackle corruption and inequality, fostering national cohesion and development in Liberia. The group emphasizes collective action and aims to leverage their influence to address pressing national challenges, which could significantly impact the country’s progress.
The launch of VPCADFLCG took place on February 15, 2025, at the EJS Ministerial Complex in Congo Town, with numerous attendees including political party representatives such as the Liberian People’s Party and the Movement for Progressive Change. Co-chair Dr. James Kollie Barclay, Jr. highlighted the organization’s foundation during a speech on behalf of Chairman Dr. Max O. Vargbele, stating it was formed in response to conditions arising from the 2023 elections and aims to benefit all Liberians.
Dr. Barclay reaffirmed that VPCADFLCG operates as a law-abiding body focused on fostering the common good, actively addressing societal issues to ensure progress. One of the initiatives includes a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a leading educational institution in India to provide scholarships for Liberian students, which could enhance the nation’s growth through skillful contributions upon their return.
In addition to educational initiatives, the organization is exploring waste-to-energy conversion projects. This approach is anticipated to promote environmental sustainability, create jobs, and resolve energy-related challenges while improving waste management practices in Liberia. The emphasis on innovation reflects a commitment to practical solutions aimed at national development.
Guest Speaker Cllr. Taiwan Saye Gongloe discussed the necessity for unity and collaboration among political figures and citizens, especially post-election. He commended the candidates for their collective stance that could contribute to peacebuilding efforts in Liberia, while calling for systemic reforms and responsible leadership to address long-standing issues gripping the nation.
Cllr. Gongloe’s address, titled “A Call for Transformative Change: Liberia’s Path to Prosperity,” underscored the urgent need for action and reforms to promote progress. He invited all sectors of society, including citizens and leaders, to join efforts toward impactful changes, emphasizing that sustainable transformation requires the participation of various stakeholders beyond just politicians.
The formation of VPCADFLCG signifies a proactive step towards addressing pressing issues in Liberia, including corruption and inequality. Through educational partnerships and sustainable initiatives like waste management, the organization aims to foster national unity and development. The calls for responsible leadership and systemic reforms reflect a crucial shift needed for long-lasting progress in the country. Collective efforts are emphasized as essential for any meaningful transformation.
