Tensions in the region spiked following Israel’s airstrikes on several Iranian locations, including military and nuclear sites, which began just last Friday. This military action provoked Iran to retaliate with missile strikes. Reports indicate that at least 24 individuals have died and hundreds have been injured due to these retaliatory actions from Iran. Meanwhile, Iranian media are reporting a death toll of at least 585 and over 1,300 injuries from the Israeli assaults within its borders.
In reference to the worsening conditions in Gaza, Starmer condemned the “intolerable situation” unfolding there, stressing the UK’s backing for an immediate ceasefire.
