On February 26, the Chinese Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Wang Yu, toured Banadir Hospital located in Mogadishu. The hospital, constructed with Chinese aid in the 1970s, symbolizes the long-standing friendship between China and Somalia. Ambassador Wang was joined by Somalia’s Deputy Minister of Health and Human Services, Dr. Mohamed Hassan Mohamed Bulale, along with Dr. Fartun Sharif Mohamed, the hospital’s director.
During the visit, Wang got a firsthand look at the hospital’s various facilities, including the ICU center, and the maternal and infant wards. The ambassador also engaged warmly with both patients and the medical staff, highlighting the hospital’s importance in supporting healthcare in the region.
Wang praised the hospital not just for its service but as a representation of the collaboration between China and Somalia. He emphasized China’s commitment to working closely with Somalia to achieve the goals set during the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). This includes enhancing cooperation in health care and public health initiatives, aiming to provide tangible benefits for the Somali population.
Dr. Fartun and others expressed their gratitude to Ambassador Wang for his visit and acknowledged the essential support from their Chinese counterparts over the years.
